Scout Youth Leadership

*Welcome to Den Chief Training

Boy Scouts wishing to become den chiefs will take this online course as part of their training to become a den chief. The class identifies den chief responsibilities and tasks, and describes the den chief's relationship to the adult den leaders and how that relates to the den chief's activities with the den. After finishing the online training, den chief candidates print their certificate of completion and undergo further training with their adult den leaders.

*Troop Leadership Training

Troop Leadership Training is organized into three one-hour modules, which can be taught individually or all in one session. The content of the first session focuses on what a new leader must know; the second session on what a leader must be, and the third session on what a leader must do. Completing all three modules qualifies the Scout to wear the "Trained" patch under his badge of office. Completion of TLT prepares the youth to attend National Youth Leadership Training.

Scouts Excited About Leadership Skills (S.E.A.L.S.)

S.E.A.L.S. is a Council Wide training opportunity designed for SCOUTS EXCITED ABOUT LEADERSHIP SKILLS. This is a weekend adventure where you camp and eat with new patrol members, while attending presentations ranging from 'How to Take Notes', 'Communications Skills', Planning 'Effective Meetings', the how and why of having an 'Interfaith Worship Service'; to campsite sanitation, and running 'Start, Stop, Continue' sessions. A S.E.A.L.S. participant learns about Scout Spirit and becomes versed in skits, and songs appropriate for troop events. Finally, he comes away with a "contract" indicating how they intend to use these new skills to help their patrol and troop.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

Known locally as Top Gun, National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster.

National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE)

The National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) is an exciting program where young men enhance their leadership skills in the Philmont back country. Scouts will expand upon team-building and ethical decision-making skills learned in National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).
