Trained Leaders

Requirement

All adult volunteers working with our youth must be trained to the position they are working by December 31, 2004. Any adult not trained to their position will not be allowed to register with the local council for that position. Trained to position includes the specific leader training for the position plus Youth Protection.

Grace Period

Leaders new to Scouting or new to a position of responsibility have a minimum of twelve (12) months to complete their training. This means that if an adult is new to his or her position and is not trained, they can register one time in that position. If the adult leader is not trained to that position by the next annual registration, they may not register.

Grandfather Provision

Leaders who had completed the necessary training for their position and were considered "Trained" September 2001 would be considered to be trained to position so long as they stay in the position they were in as of September, 2001, and complete New Leader Essentials. If the leader changes position after September, 2001 they must complete the new training requirements.

Youth Protection

All adult leaders must have a current certification for Youth Protection. Youth Protection certification is valid for no more than two years. All adult leaders must complete Youth Protection at least every two years to remain Trained.
